Need is urgent with 40% of First Nations communities in Ontario under a boil water advisory

Alert Labs, a smart water sensor company, wrapped up a fundraising campaign with a donation to the Water First Internship. The program supports Indigenous Youth in receiving technical training for water treatment technology to gain the skills that are needed to begin their careers as clean water stewards in their communities.

The focus of Alert Labs’ fundraising campaign was to donate a portion of online sales from Alert Labs Flowie water sensor for a month from World Water Day, March 22 to Earth Day, April 22.

“Alert Labs’ donation brings us closer to our goal of ensuring drinking water is safe in First Nations Communities. Graduates of the program become leaders in their communities and empower future generations,” says Executive Director of Water First, John Millar.

The need for programs such as the Water First Internship is greater than ever, with forty percent of First Nations Communities in Ontario under a boil water advisory.

“Access to clean water is a basic human right,” says Ruth Casselman, Alert Labs COO and co-founder. “As active supporters of the ‘tech for good’ movement, it is important to our entire team to give back to our community. As a young company, this was our first formal social profit fundraiser, and we are honoured to support the important water treatment training initiatives run by Water First. ”
