7 Gallon Per Minute Leak Detected

On January 26 at 11:16 a.m., the Data Analyst in charge of a multi-family community in Illinois, received an email from the AlertAQ™ water intelligence platform detailing the location, start time and flow rate of the leak-based water usage. (see figure 1)

The email sent from AlertAQ™ details the ongoing leak detected at the multi-family property. The flow rate was 7.56 gallons per minute. In addition to sending emails, AlertAQ™ calls users on the phone and sends text messages and in-app notifications.

The Service Director was dispatched to investigate the leak. He reported finding a hose attached to a spigot in a laundry room that was continuously running. According to him, it “seems someone had been running the water and forgot to shut off the valve.” The water was promptly turned off avoiding significant water usage costs and major water damage.

The Analyst estimates that if the water had continued to run, the water damage to the laundry room could have totalled $25,000 in repairs and replaced equipment.

The leak that AlertAQTM discovered could have gone unnoticed for days or weeks causing thousands of dollars in damage and water costs. The AI-powered leak detection is helping us conserve resources and lower water costs at our multi-family properties.
